Date of sample receipt: Report issue date: Method Summary:
PESTICIDESGC-suiteSub-samples (500 ml) of a 20% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were taken and the pH adjusted to 7.0. Anyresidues present were partitioned into dichloromethane (3 x 100 ml) prior to clean-up using high performance gelpermeation chromatography (HPGPC). Aliquots of the HPGPC eluates were analysed using a gas chromatographconnected to a mass selective detector (GC-MSD).
LC-suiteSub-samples (50 ml) of a 20% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were taken and the pH adjusted to 3.0. Thesewere applied to pre-conditioned Oasis HLB solid phase extraction columns. The eluates were solvent-exchangedprior to analysis by HPLC-MS/MS.
Acid herbicidesSub-samples (50 ml) of a 20% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were taken and the pH adjusted to 3.0. Thesewere applied to pre-conditioned Oasis HLB solid phase extraction columns. The eluates were solvent-exchangedprior to analysis by HPLC-MS/MS in negative chemical ionisation mode.
DithiocarbamatesSub-samples were incubated at 80ºC under reducing acidic conditions to convert any dithiocarbamates present tocarbon disulfide. Any carbon disulfide liberated was quantified using a gas chromatograph connected to a flamephotometric detector (GC-FPD).
Polar organophosphorus pesticides (POPs)Sub-samples of a 10% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were degassed using a sonic water bath prior todirect analysis by HPLC-MS/MS.
Glyphosate & glufosinateSub-samples (4 ml) of a 10% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were analysed directly by IC-MS/MS innegative chemical ionisation mode, after an automated in-line clean-up and concentration step using ionchromatography.
Paraquat and diquatSub-samples (10 ml) of a 20% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were taken and applied to pre-conditionedOasis WCX solid phase extraction columns. The eluates were evaporated and reconstituted in an appropriate LCsolvent prior to analysis by HPLC-MS/MS.
ChlormequatSub-samples of a 10% (w/v) aqueous solution of each sample were analysed directly by HPLC-MS/MS. Results:
The results of the analyses requested are noted below.
Not detected - no residue of the pesticide noted was found in the sample at or above the detection limit quoted.
Total pesticides - sum of the residue levels found in the sample at or above the detection limits quoted.
