LIST OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS WITH OVER-THE-COUNTER ALTERNATIVES
More than ever, many prescription drugs have over-the-counter (OTC) alternatives, which are
available without a prescription. Although an OTC alternative product may contain different active
ingredients than the prescription product, it can often be used to treat the same condition. Below is a
list of prescription drugs used to treat heartburn and a list of prescription drugs used to treat
allergies. Beside each list, you'll see OTC alternatives for the drug class. Under the Healthcare 80
option
, if you purchase a prescription version of any of these medications (even if it’s a formulary
brand or generic version), you’ll pay the non-formulary brand coinsurance, subject to your plan's
minimums and maximums. Ask your doctor if one of these alternatives might be right for you.
