Pre-Treatment Guidelines
To decrease the chance of unwanted side effects, avoid tanning the skin for 6 weeks prior to treatment Make sure all sunless tanners have faded prior to your laser treatment (1 week is a typical time period for wearing off of sunless tanners)
For Cold Sore Sufferers--Take your Anti-viral medication: Laser treatment can stimulate a cold sore outbreak
o Valtrex -- Take as directed o If you have an outbreak prior to or during your treatments please notify us. Your treatment wil need to be postponed until the skin has completely healed Avoid the use of harsh products on the skin for a minimum of 1 week prior to your laser treatment (i.e. Retin A, Tretinoin, Glycolic acid, Salicylic Acid, retinol/Retin A based products, scrubs or microdermabrasion)
You may experience some puffiness fol owing treatment and this can be al eviated with the use of a hemorrhoid cream such as Preparation H, cortisone cream and/or an oral anti-inflammatory.
Post-Treatment Guidelines
Swel ing can last anywhere from 2 to 5 days, maybe longer. Cool compresses after the treatment wil help to shorten the duration of swel ing
Sleeping with your head elevated wil help reduce this (try sleeping on a few pil ows)
Temporary Redness/flushing is expected and can last a few days.
Water fil ed blisters can develop in the treatment areas, which requires no treatment and typical y resolves within a week. If you get crusting or scabbing, you may apply Aquaphore or Bacitracin (antibiotic ointment) to aid in the healing process. DO NOT PICK at anything, as this can lead to scarring. It may take 2-3 weeks for complete healing. During this time, please refrain from excess sun exposure and use sunscreen daily.
Avoid any activity that causes you to flush or overheat for at least one week after your treatment
Examples: hot tub, stress, wine, excessive weightlifting, the hot sun
In severe cases, topical Metrogel or Azelex may be recommended by your clinician. If you experience sensitivities in your skin, avoid use until the sensitivity resolves
Gentle skin care is recommended fol owing your treatment (typical y a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and zinc-containing sun block). Your clinician can recommend products based on your needs
Be sure to avoid any products that abrade the skin (scrubs), and avoid submerging the treated area in chlorinated pools or hot tubs for the next 3-5 days
Please keep in mind that multiple treatments are usual y required.
Avoid direct/excessive sun exposure during the 2 weeks fol owing treatment. During the healing process it is important to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, preferably with a physical block such as Zinc
It is recommended to maintain your results that a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher be used on a daily basis as well as a skin care regimen specific to your skin
