Relevant Experience Dr Wise is a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry with further training in Liaison Psychiatry. He has been on the GMC’s Specialist Register since April 2002. Dr Wise is a NHS consultant in a busy inner city area, responsible for the assessment of over providing long term care for over 200 patients with severe and enduring mental illnesses. Dual or Triple Diagnosis of Substance Misuse with a Mental Health Illness and a Personality Disorder are common. In his private practice Dr Wise sees over 150 new patients a year and coordinates the care of over 200 patients. Between 2003 - 2010 Dr Wise was responsible for the assessment of 400 new cases a year. Dr Wise previously ran the perinatal and liaison psychiatry service for Hammersmith Hospital for 18 months. With a Masters in Anthropology and trained in CAT/CBT he is well versed to assist with the varied issues that present in the acutely unwell, or with medically unexplained symptoms. Dr Wise is Chair of the British Medical Associations Medico-Legal Committee, sits on its Medical Ethics Committee, and regularly liaises with the Ministries of Health & Justice. Dr Wise investigated complaints for the NHS Ombudsman & the Healthcare Commission (as of 1st April 2009 the Care Quality Commission). Dr Wise writes over 60 reports a year for the UK and Eire Courts, addressing Mental Illness and Substance Misuse, Personal Injury, DDA, fitness to parent, and capacity issues. Dr Wise’s research is forensically based, specifically the interface of law with psychiatric practice and medically unexplained symptoms. Since 2001 Dr Wise has lectured, and ran Workshops at National and International Conferences which, apart from psychiatric illnesseses, have included prescribing, capacity, National Guidelines & fitness to drive. Author of 2 textbooks, over 60 articles, letters and abstracts, and several web-based learning resources, Dr Wise regularly features in Radio, Print & Podcast on psychiatric matters, and is on the editorial board of the Foundation Years Journal.
