(under the guidance of Mayor Bobot Umali) Surgical team: National Committee on Sight Preservation headed Talipanan, Puerto Galera Aninuan, Puerto Galera Balatero, Puerto Galera Poblacion, Puerto Galera Palangan, Puerto Galera Paraway, San Teodoro Saclag, San Teodoro Sipit Saburan, San Teodoro Ambang, San Teodoro Lantuyan, Baco San Lorenzo, Baco Katarata, Baco Paraiso, Baco Baras, Baco Matahimik, Baco Malmis, Baco • 4 missions were made in this periode to identify patients for potential cataract surgery. Approximately 70 patients were identified. The four missions took place on 22-22 January, 29-30 January, 9-11 February and 24-26 Feburary, 2012 o Talipanan- patients coming from Aninuan, Talipanan, o Lantuyan- patients coming from Katarata, Paraiso, San o Saclag- patients coming from Ambang, Sipit Saburan and Transportation of the patients from 3 meeting places to Set-up of the lodging area for the Mangyans. Surgical Team started to set-up and sterilize the surgical Final screening of the first batch containing forty (40) patients at t were eligible for cataract extraction. Four patients were referred to be seen in SENTRO OFTHALMOLOGICO de JOSE RIZAL in University of the Philippines- Philippine General Hospital Manila and Sta. Lucia Foundation for further corneal and retinal examinations. Non-eligible patients traveled back to their respective homes. Candidates for cataract operations were early to the hospital for their briefing and treatment before the operation. Elev t day. Three patients were cancelled due to failure of iris to dilate due to internal infection. Antibiotics were prescribed to the said patients. The second batch containing 19 patients came in from Baras, Malmis, and Matahimik, Baco and remaining patients from Saclag, San Teodoro and Puerto Galera. Final screening was readily done. Out e es. Two patients were recommended that they be seen in SENTRO OFTHALMOLOGICO de JOSE RIZAL in University of the Philippines- Philippine General Hospital Manila and Sta. Lucia Foundation for further corneal and retinal examinations. The second wave of patients then were scheduled on the next day of operation. The patients who undergone surgeries together with their companions were given strict instructions on the do’s and don’ts of post- surgical eye care, how medications are to be taken and administered and a fina First post-operative day, all 11 patients who undergone surgery the day before were seen and re-evaluated. Reminders on post-op eye care were repeated. They, then, together with patients non- eligible for surgery, travelled back to Puerto Galera. for their briefing and administration of medications before surgery. All were operated on and were returned the next day for their post-operative check-up. Reminders for post-operative eye care, medications and final lchec Transport back to Puerto Galera after check-up. A total of 20 patients underwent Cataract surgery. Several patients were not eligible for cataract surgery but were treated for other sufferings, given reading glasses etc. Specific areas were identified and targeted for future missions ALL patients were given post- operative medications 1 Prednisolone ophthalmic drop – 1 bottle 2) 3 Norfloxacin 200 mg capsules - 5 capsules 4) 4 Paracetamol 500 mg tab – 10 tablets 5) 5 Multivitamin capsule – 30 capsules 6) 6 Clear non- prescription plastic eyeglasses – 1 pair 7) 7 2-page-reminder of do’s and don’ts for post-op eye care **in the case of the Nelsie Ayade- bilateral pterygium excision patient- she was given two (2) sets of medications : o Mefenamic Acid 500 mg caps: 10 capsules each o a dark plastic eyeglass and a clear plastic eyeglass – non- 1 Rading Axalan – 6 year old, male, with the diagnosis of Corneal Opacity, both eyes. A complete ocular examination is recommended. 2 Milkilyn Bangkiling- 25 year old, female, with Corneal Opacity on both eyes. A complete ocular examination is recommended. 3 Inya Bangkiling- 18 year old, female, with Corneal Opacity on both eyes. A complete ocular examination is recommended. 4 Roberto Inez- 19 year old, male, with no light perception on the 5 Yolanda Samor- 38 year old, female, with Corneal scar at left eye. 6.
6 Manuel Delizo- 38 year old, male, with loss of vision on both eyes.
