We hope that our returning students had a restful vacation, and that they are excited to come back to school. To our new families, please know that we are looking forward to getting to know you, and we are delighted to have you here! You are an integral part of your child’s education and our partnership will increase and enhance your child’s performance both emotionally and academically. During this time of financial crisis, we need to work together! You can help your child succeed in so many ways. Your attendance at school meetings helps to keep you informed about curriculum, new programs, upcoming events and expenditures. When you help in the classroom, you are better able to help your child understand their classroom expectations and their daily work. By taking time to read the information that gets sent home, you are able to keep informed about field trips, special needs of the school, etc. Ensuring your child attends school on a daily basis, your child will feel emotionally secure and confident in his/her learning. Sending supplies for your child as well as the classroom supports your child in his/her daily preparation in class. And finally, when maintaining an open line of communication with your child’s teacher, you are better able to help with your child’s learning needs. In sum, you are an important half of the teaching team, and we look forward to getting to know you and working together for the success of the students! Mrs. Parker and I are particularly proud of our entire Amesti staff. We have had changes, some due to budget cuts and some to grade level changes. Most of our staff will be familiar! Remember that Kinder through third grade will have about 27 students in each classroom. Allegra Díaz returns to third grade from maternity leave, while Ms. Krissy Broek, third grade, will be on maternity leave (her substitute is Marina Maldonado)! Jules Goodwin, our terrific P.E. teacher will be at PV High (so some former Amesti students will see her). Rachel Hitchcock returns to Amesti and will teach Science to 4th & 5th graders. Finally, we welcome new Special Education Staff—Teacher Elsa Muñoz, Nurses Dorit Gersh and Ana Sullivan, Psychologist Linda Billings, Assistants Jason Miller and Kevin Cisneros. You will find each and every person committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure your child’s academic success and emotional well-being. We welcome your contributions, suggestions, and participation. As a REMINDER, Amesti Elementary parents and staff revised our uniform policy in the spring of 2008 which was approved by the PVUSD School Board. This is the current policy, and students are expected to comply. If you are interested in discussing uniforms, attend parent meetings. Please send your child to school Monday - Thursday in the following uniform: o Any combination of colors--navy blue, gray, white, and black & the “Amesti Eagle” shirts.
o Jumpers, skorts, dresses, full-length pants (w/belt if belt loops), shorts, and sweats are acceptable.
o Shirts should be tucked into skirt or pants.
o EVERY Friday will be “free dress day” to encourage participation, this includes blue jeans! (Still within
District dress policy—including not wearing the color red.) We will expect students to comply with the requirements from the first day of school. Pictures of possibilities below. Sincerely,

Esperamos que nuestros estudiantes regresando hayan tenido una vacación relajante y que estén emocionados por regresar a la escuela. A nuestras familias nuevas, por favor sepan que estamos anticipando llegar a conocerles y estamos, asimismo, encantados de tenerle aquí. Ustedes son una parte integral de la educación de su hijo y nuestro trabajo juntos irá incrementando y realizando el desempeño de su hijo emocionalmente y académicamente. ¡Durante esta crisis financiera, todos necesitamos trabajar juntos! Ustedes pueden ayudar a que su hijo sea exitoso de muchas maneras. Parker y yo estamos particularmente orgullosas de nuestro personal en Amesti. Tenemos algunos cambios por los recortes de fondos y otros por cambio del nivel del grado. Ustedes encontrarán que todos estamos comprometidos a hacer cuanto sea necesario para asegurarle a su hijo el éxito académico y el bienestar emotivo. Agradecemos sus aportaciones, sugerencias y participación. Como un recordatorio, los padres y personal de la Escuela Amesti revisaron la póliza de uniformes en la primavera de 2008 la cual fue aprobado por la Mesa Directiva de PVUSD. Esta es la póliza corriente, y esperamos que los alumnos la sigan. Favor de mandar a su hijo/hija en uniforme de lunes a jueves en el siguiente uniforme: o Cualquier combinación de estos colores—azul marino, gris, blanco, y negro y camisas de Amesti.
o Jumpers, faldas, vestidos, short-falda, pantalones largos (si tienen presillas, se debe usar cinturón), pantalones
cortos y pantalones de sudadera son aceptables.
o Camisas deben estar dentro del pantalón o falda.
o ¡Cada viernes será “llevar lo que quiere” para mantener participación lo cual incluye pantalones de
mezclilla! (Todavía dentro de la póliza del Distrito—incluyendo no llevar el color rojo).
